Super Sunday for Anish and Mathana as Honda One Make Race gets off to an electrifying start

Mathana KumarCoimbatore: Team Ten 10 Racing made a dominant start to the Honda One Make Race as its riders Mathana Kumar (Kerala) and Rajiv S took the top two spots in Race 1 as the first round of Honda One Make Race got underway at the Kari Motor Speedway at Coimbatore this weekend. An unfortunate crash to rider Sethu Rajiv, owing to a break failure, during the 6th lap in the Race 2, brought an early end to the proceedings.

For the aborted race, basis the positions they were in prior to the crash, scoring half point for their positions, Abhishek V (Chennai) was followed by Rajiv S (Tamil Nadu) and Mathana (Kerela) respectively. In the CBR 150R Category, it was Karnataka’s Anish D Shetty who took the day’s top-honors, clinching both Race 1 and Race 2 of the category. Having clinched the Race 1 in a canter, Anish yet again stamped his authority on the grid with an impeccable start-to-finish performance to complete a ‘double’ in the first round

Team Ten10 Racing were the early pace setters in the CBR 250R Open category as its riders Mathana Kumar (Kerala) and Rajiv S clinched the first 2 sports in the Race 1 of the category. The excitement filled race was keenly fought between the two Ten 10 racing team mates, before Tirchy’s Mathana Kumar eventually pulled ahead, with a timing of 13:10:588 minutes. Rajiv S, who hails from Chennai, finished a close second with a timing of 13:12:336 minutes. The Ten 10 team’s dominance of the podium was interrupted by the local Coimbatore-lad – Kishore VS from Apex Racing, who finished third in 13:13:814 minutes. Chennai’s Ananth Raj P, who recorded the fastest lap at just 1:15:101 minutes, failed to sustain the momentum, finishing fourth.

Anish D Shetty shines in CBR 150R Novice Category

Anish had earlier ensured an exhilarating start to the Sunday proceedings in the Honda CBR 150R Novice Race-1 category, zooming past the finish line in just 08:48:209 minutes. He also recorded the fastest lap of the race at 1:19:565 minutes in the process. Mahesh Murali M from Kerala took the second position with a timing of 08:54:916 minutes while Shreyas Shankar San from Maharashtra finished third, clocking 08:55:916 minutes.

In his second race, Anish clocked 09:14:565 minutes to coast to his second win of the day. Shreyas finished in the second spot with a timing of 09:19:217, edging past Shane Thompson (from Karnataka) who finished third with a time of 09:21:013 minutes over the 6 laps.

Finishing second rounded-off that performance with yet another comprehensive victory on Sunday clocking just 10:18:487 for his 6 laps. Piyush Ranjan (1:41:873) and Anish Shetty D (1:42:235) finished second and third respectively to complete the podium.

The fastest lap time over two days, recorded by Joseph P Mathew during the Race 2 on Sunday, off 1:41:474 minutes; was also the best lap time in the 150cc category across all manufacturers.

Pooja Dabhi clinches Honda All Ladies Race

Honda All Ladies Race was undoubtedly the biggest draw on Saturday as 10 women riders competed on the race-prepped CBR 150R motorcycles. Puja Dabhi of Pune romped home to an impressive victory at the Round One of the Honda All Ladies Race.

Having started the race from the pole position, Puja clocked an overall timing of 08:03:969 minutes over the 5 laps, to take the top-honors. Shruthi N from Chennai, who clocked the fastest lap timing of the race at just 1:23:691 minutes, finished the race in the second-spot with an overall time 08:04:529 minutes. Her compatriot from Chennai, A Ryehana had finished third at 08:10:097 minutes.
