India win silver in Vovinam at Asian Beach Games

Deepa GawaleDA NANG: India added another medal in the 5th Asian Beach Games with Deepa Gawale winning a silver in the Women’s Single, Long HoQuyen, Vovinam event on Sunday.

Praveen Garg, General Secretary, Vovinam Association informed, Deepa lost to Manik Trisna of Indonesia who scored 275 points whereas Deepa scored 267 points to settle for a silver. Hosts Vietnam and Japan secured the 3rd place with 261 points. Vovinam, a Vietnamese art, is a combination of events with and without weapons.

India have bagged 21medals, including 1 gold, 4 silver and 16 bronze. A 208-member contingent has participated in 13 different sports disciplines. Vovinam has a 13- member team from India, which bagged one silver medal on the second day.  

President Dr Vishnu Sahai expressed his greeting to Deepa Gawale.
