Golden streak for Johnson and Inderjeet in Asian Grand Prix Athletics Series 2015

Indian Athletics Team Golden streak at Asian Grand Prix Athletics Series 2015New Delhi: The Indian Athletics Team reserved its best performance for the last as they won 3 Gold medals, 4 Silver medals and 1 Bronze in the third and final leg of the Asian Grand Prix Series at Chanthaburi (Thailand) on Monday. India’s 800m specialist Jinson Johnson and reigning Asian champion Inderjeet Singh waived away any chances of Monday blues hampering their form as both athletes completed a golden hat-trick in the 2015 GP Series.

Jinson Johnson led the way with a timing of 1:50.56 to race away with the top spot in the men’s 800 metres race while Inderjeet Singh produced a best effort of 19.83 metres to take the top honours. Javelin thrower Devinder Singh justified his selection with a Gold-medal winning throw of 76.61 metres.


The quarter-milers, Asian Games Bronze medalist Arokia Rajiv and Asian Games Gold medallist in the 4x400m women’s relay and Silver medallist in the Asian Championships, MR Poovamma, bagged a Silver each, clocking 46.07s and 52.60s respectively. Compatriots Sajiv V finished ninth in the men’s race with a timing of 47.86s while Anilda Thomas finished at fifth place in the women’s race with a timing of 54.24s.

Gayathri Govindraj improved her overall standing in the GP Series with a Silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking 13.76s, while team-mate Meghana finished 5th with 14.22s. The women’s 4x100m relay team bagged yet another Bronze, this time with a timing of 45.42s while their men counterpart finished fourth, clocking 39.83s.

Meanwhile, long Jumper Ankit Sharma also completed a hat-trick of Silver medals in the GP Series with a best effort of 7.87m in the third leg today.
In other events, India's triple Sheena NV finished 5th with 12.96 metres while IAAF World Junior Championships 2014 Bronze medal winner in discus, Navjeet Kaur Dhillon produced her season’s best throw of 53.53m to finish fourth. Women sprinter Srabani Nanda finished in fourth place after clocking 11.73s in the 100m race. M Gomathi also finished fourth in the women’s 800 metres with a timing of 2:07.88.
