77th All India Inter-University Athletics Championships,Day 2:Sanjivani achieved ‘record hat-trick’ in 5000m

SanjivniCoimbatore: Two years’ ago Maharashtra distance runner Sanjivani Jadhav commenced her winning streak in the inter-university athletics by taking a "double" in Moodbidri. The same year she was selected to represent at the World University Games in Gwangju (Korea) and ranked a credible sixth in 10,000m besides finishing thirteenth in 5000m.

Already a bronze medalist in the Asian junior championships in 3000m at Taipei-2014, Sanjivani first entered the inter-university record books with a time of 16:36.45 in Moodbidri. She improved it with 16:18.01 while defending her title in Patiala last year.

Today at Nehru Stadium here the 20-year-old from Savitribai Phule Pune University student registered a big personal best in clocking 15:59.17 to register her first "hat-trick" here.

Earlier this morning Pune University's Asian Youth champion Kisan Tadvi clinched the first gold medal of the meet by winning the men's 5000m race with a personal best 14:37.47.

Sudhakar, Archana fastest as expected Kakatiya University’s Ch. Sudhakar (10.64 secs) and Madras varsity’s S. Archana (12.04s) adjudged fastest man and woman titles respectively by winning the 100m finals this evening. Incidentally they returned slower timing than their qualifying semi-finals in yesterday.  In the semis both the athletes clocked meet best 10.53 and 11.88 secs.

City girl M.A. Siva Anbarasi brought cheer to the home crowd as she leapt a personal best 13.04 metres to pockets the gold.  The surprise factor here was the upstaged favourite N.V. Sheena, who achieved a hat-trick medals in this event between 2013 and 2015 as a representative of Mahatma Gandhi University but entered here as student in Mangalore University.  Sheena, who settled with a silver medal leaping 12.87m today is having a personal best 13.58m registered in last year’s Kosanov memorial athletics meet at Almaty, Kazakhstan, as a member of the pre-olympic preparatory team from India.

“I have a schedule to follow as am training for this year’s Asian championships at Ranchi and will be peaking only around this summer” Sheena revealed after the event.

Kamalpreet hurled the disc to new distance Patiala based Punjabi University discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur, the reigning national champion in her event, proved her mettle as she obliterated the 15-year-old meet record (53.28m) of Harwant Kaur (Guru Nanak Dev University) on her very first attempt as the disc set out by her touched at 55.11m.  Her fine series of throw went as 55.11, 51.33, 54.67, Foul, 53.13 and 55.02m.

Kamalpreet was a silver medalist in the last edition of the inter-university meet at Patiala (50.29m) and revealed her medal ambitions in the World University Games at Chinese Taipei later this summer.
