Nehru Sub-junior Hockey Tournament: Birsa Munda Vidyapitha beat Indira Priyadarshini Higher Secondary School 4-3 in final

hockey stick 26New Delhi: Birsa Munda Vidyapitha, Rourkela beat Indira Priyadarshini Higher Secondary School, Bhopal by 4-3 in a closely contested final match of the 34th Nehru Sub-junior Hockey Tournament being played at Shivaji Stadium in New Delhi, on Thursday.

Birsa Munda School scored goals in the 13th, 22nd, 69th and 70th minutes of the match. The goal scorers of the match were Sundeep Chirmako, Subhas Barla, and Sameer Ekka, respectively for Birsa Munda School. Sundeep Chirmako scored two goals to play a decisive role in Birsa Munda School emerging as the champions in 34th Nehru Sub-junior Hockey Tournament.

However, Indira Priyadarshini School gave a tough fight and scored three goals in the 4th, 26th and 60th minute. Himanshu Sainik scored two goals for Indira Priyadarshini School in the 4th and 60th minutes. Aniket Varun scored in 26th minute to give a 3-2 lead to Priyadarshini School. Birsa Munda School’s two consecutive goals in the 69th and 70th minute brought the match in their favour.

The winning team, Birsa Munda Vidyapitha, were awarded Rs 96,000 and the runners-up team, Indira Priyadarshini Higher Secondary School, were awarded Rs 64,000.

Coach of the winner team, Peter Soreng was given Rs 8,000 and coach of the runners –up team was given Rs 5,000.
