Chandigarh: Shuttlers of Panjab University badminton men team won gold medal in the North Zone Inter-varsity Badminton Tournament held at M.D.U. Rohtak from October 17-23, 2016.
Panjab University team retained the title by defeating M.D.U. Rohtak by 3-2 in the final. Earlier, Panjab University defeated Delhi University in the quarter-final match 3-2.
In the final, Kawaldeep of Panjab University defeated Surinder Rathi 21-15, 21-10, while Rupinder of Panjab University lost to Aman 14-21, 11-21.
In the doubles Rupinder and Kawaldeep of Panjab University defeated Aman and Surinder Rathi, M.D.U. 21-16, 21-19.
In the third singles, Kashish Sharma of Panjab University lost to Rohan (M.D.U.) 21-18, 21-12 and the score were tied at 2-2.
In final set of doubles, Panjab University team of Hardik and Kashish defeated Rohan and Sohit of M.D.U. in straight sets 21-14, 21-12 and won the gold.
In women’s section, Panjab University secured IIIrd place and Delhi and MDU, Rohtak secured 1st and 2nd place, respectively.
