Nipun wrecks Ludhiana, Prabhsimran hits a brilliant ton for patiala in Punjab State Inter District U-19 years tournament for DP Azad trophy

cricket bat ballChandigarh/Patiala/Jalandhar: Chandigarh mauled Ludhiana by 112 runs in their Under-19 Inter District match for DP Azad Trophy played at DAV School, Sector-8 Chandigarh on Wednesday. 

Put into bat by Ludhiana, Chandigarh riding on opener Jagmeet Singh’s knock of 77 off 76 balls inclusive of 4 boundaries and 3 sixes scored 168 before being bowled out in 28 overs. Resham Sharma 29 was the other main scorer for Chandigarh.  For Ludhiana Dipin Chitkara 3 for 33 and Anmol Sharma 2 for 41 were the main wicket takers.

Replying Ludhiana were skittled out for 56 in 17.21 overs with Jaish Jain being the only batsman to enter double figures by scoring 26.  Medium pacer Nipun Pandita ripped through the top order of Ludhiana by snaring 6 wickets for 18 runs off 5.2 overs.  He was ably supported by spinner Resham Sharma who complemented him with a haul of 4 for 18.  Chandigarh got 4 points while Ludhiana got Zero.

In the 2nd match played at Dhruv Pandove Patiala, Patiala U-19 made short work of Mohali by beating them by 9 wickets in the D.P. Azad Trophy.  Mohali winning the toss and electing the bat made a promising start with Nirmal Singh (30) and Shubman Gill (95) adding 78 runs for the first wicket.  Hardik Chaudhary unbeaten (28) and Mayank Sidhu (21) were the other contributors with the bat. 

For Patiala Abhishek Sharma, Mayank Markande and Tejpreet Singh scalped two wickets each. Replying Patiala opened with Jashanpreet Singh Sidhu and Prabhsimran Singh and the duo gave a rousing start by adding 118 runs for the first wicket before Jashanpreet Sidhu was caught by Mayank Sidhu off Gurkirat Romana for 38 off 52 balls with 4x4s and 1x6.

Thereafter skipper Anmolpreet Singh joined Prabhsimran Singh and the duo were involved in an unbeaten second wicket partnership of 86 runs to take Patiala to 204 for 01 and over the line.  Prabhsimran singh remained unbeaten on 116 off 114 balls inclusive of 12x4s and 2x6s while Anmopreet singh was unbeaten on 41 off 38 balls inclusive of 4x4s and 1x6. Gurkirat Romana 1 for 39 was the lone wicket taker for Mohali.

In the 3rd match, points were shared between Jalandhar and Amritsar (two points each) at FC Sondhi Cricket Ground, Jalandhar. Amritsar batting first were 107 for no loss in 23.3 overs with Vivek Sharma unbeaten (53) off 72 balls with 5x4s and 1x6 and Marshal Bhagat unbeaten on 49 off 71 balls with 3x4s and 1x6. Match was called off due to heavy rain.
