Pune: Chandrashekhar Agashe College Football Grounds of Pune played hosts to the 4th stop for IFB Industries ltd nationwide tour in search of India’s next Football star. Having completed the cities of New Delhi, Chandigarh and Kolkata, it was time for IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs to conquer the west.
Like always the enthusiasm among locals in Pune was evident as 32 schools and 24 colleges from the city came forward and participated in the country’s latest football development project. The first day of the event involved the school & Junior College leg while on the second day the event involved the Senior Colleges.
In the School Leg of the event Spicer High School emerged as champions defeating J N Petit High School. Spicer High School scored three goals in the finals to outplay a robust J N Petit defense which stood strong all through the tournament.
Spicer High School will now travel to Goa for the National finals to be held later in the year representing Pune. Fourteen year old Raj Parasher of J N Petiti School was adjudged as the Most Promising Player of the School leg.
Cladeo Nongplugh and Thangjam Sashikanta Singh from Spicer Memorial School will be the two boys selected from the School leg of Pune. The budding footballers will now get a chance of their lifetime to attend a training camp under coaches from Boca Juniors.
It was double delight for Spicer as their seniors the Spicer Memorial College beat St Vincent’s College of Commerce (Night) in the finals. It was a very hard fought final match as both the teams were deadlocked till the final whistle. St Vincent’s College lost out in the last moment as they failed to convert from the spot in the penalties.
St Vincent’s lost 3-1 on penalties to Spicer Memorial College as they now win the bragging rights to be called the Pune Champions of IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs. Faizi Salim from the Bishops College emerged as the Most Promising player of the tournament for College leg.
Chief Scout Jamshid Nassiri selected Shadab Sheikh of University of Pune and Lalremdika of Spicer Memorial College as the scouted players from Pune’s College leg of the event to join the training camp where they will get trained the Boca Juniors way.
IFB Point Partners Kamlesh Karnik, Subhash Atharve, Subhash Karnik and Priya Karnik along with Chief Scout Jamshid Nassiri handed out the prizes to Winners and Runners Up.
Having concluded the Pune Chapter of the IFB Boca Juniors Football Champs, the next stop will be the powerhouse of Indian football Goa.
