Chandigarh: Mohun Bagan Football Academy bagged third place in 11th Administrator’s Challange Cup All India Football Tournament and pursed with cash prize of Rs. 50,000/ ( Rupees fifty thousands ). In the hard liner match played at Sector 17 Football Stadium, Mohun Bagan edged out Mahilpur football Academy by the score of 2-1.
The match started with the dull note took the momentum in the third minute of play when Mahilpur medio Gurprinder singh sent the high ball just in front of the Mohun Magan penalty area, the defence line and the custodian of Mohun Bagan Amit Biswas got confused, Sukhbir Singh of Mahilpur encashed the situation and entered in to the bagan’s penalty box where he was brought down by the Bagan’s defender in resultant penalty kick was awarded to the Mahilpur side which was converted by Mehtab Singh of Mahilpur. Mohun Bagan lads were stunned by the early goal and after conceding the goal tried their level best to come back in the game but their opponent’s gave no chane upto half way time. Mahilpur lads were leading by 1-0 at the breather.
On the resumption of play after the interval Mohun Bagan lads changed their tactics and started penetratiing through the wings. Their medios after playing the squire passes started sending the long passes towards right and left flanks. In the 65th minute of play Mohun Bagan’s medio Th. Bonard Singh dribbled past two players of Mahilpur and gave a diagonal pass to Jerry On Pulamtf just in the goal area of Mahilpur where jerry scored the goal with his solo efforts.
After scoring the equaliser Mohun Bagan lads increased the pace of the game and mobilised their all units which puts the lanky defenders of Mahilpur in great difficulties at many occassions. Sonu Hazra of Mohun Bagan scored the second goal for his team in the 76th minute of play through a brillilient header off a cross sent by Ch. Kenson Metai from the left flank. Gurpinder singh and Sukhjinder Singh of Mahilpur where as Manik Halder of Mohun Bagan were cautioned by the referee and shown yellow card for their involvement in rough play.
Final match of the tournament will be played between the defending champion Chandigarh Football Academy and AIFF Regional Academy Navi Mubbai tomorrow at sector-17 football stadium at 2.00 p.m.
