48 countries compete at 6th World Bodybuilding Championship

Delhi-Players-representing-Indian-Squad-at-6th-World-Body-Bulding--Physique-Championship-along-with-officialsNew Delhi: The Indian Body Builders Federation (IBBF), India’s only Federation in body building recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India is all set to host the 6th World Body Building and Physique Sports Competition 2014. To be held from December 7th-9th, 2014 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO in Mumbai, the championship will witness participations from 48 countries. The highest athlete participation will be from Iran- 56 participants followed by Thailand- 38 participants, Hungary- 32 participants and Brazil with 28 participants.

The Indian National Squad includes eight athletes from Delhi namely, Mamta Devi (Women Senior Open), Ranjeet Singh (Sport Physique), Gaurav Kumar (Sport Physique), Vatika Ahluwalia Grover (Model Physique), Jinnie Gogia Chugh (Model Physique), Raju Khan (65 KG), Neeraj Kumar (70 KG) and Jagat Kumar (85 KG) at the 6th World Body Building and Physique Sports Competition, 2014.

Over 400 national and international athletes will showcase their muscular talent while vying for medals in 35 categories in Body Building, Model Physique, Athletic Physique and Sports Physique categories. There is a separate category of Junior and Master’s for Men’s Body Builders below the age of 21 years and 40-49 Years (below 80 Kgs and above 80 Kgs), 50-59 years and 60-69 years. This time around India will also witness Women Body Builders and Physique Athletes for the very first time.

Talking about this elaborate competition, Mr. Chetan Pathare, General Secretary, IBBF said, “We are very happy and excited to host participants from every corner of the world making it a remarkable event which will motivate this fitness sport in our country. A championship of this stature will exhibit the world's best bodybuilders and fitness athletes. Indian bodybuilding fans will get a first-time in-the-flesh glimpse of such champions in their muscular shapes.”

Mr. Surinder Sharma, President, Delhi Body Building Association said, “It’s a matter of great pride for Delhi to rope in the eight best athletes as part of the Indian contingent at the 6th World Body Building and Physique Sports Competition. We wish good luck to all of them and are certainly hopeful that they will make India proud in this international competition. I’m sure these mind-blowing athletes are going to give judges a tough time deciding, as they have all worked very hard to reach this level.”


IBBF was formed to propagate and popularize the sport of Body building in India. The IBBF also has the distinction as the only Federation for Body Building in India that is recognized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in addition to being the only Indian Federation recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
