Punjab all set for 5th World Kabaddi Cup from Dec 6

Chandigarh: Punjab Government has given its final touches to arrangements for successful conduct of 5th World Cup Kabaddi Punjab-2014 at 14 different locations in the state. During this mega event 10 national teams in men and 8 in women would compete to win prizes amounting to Rs. 2 crore.

Giving details about preparations, a spokesman from state sports department informed that the international event would be organised from December 6 to December 20. Opening Ceremony would be held at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium Jalandhar and closing ceremony at Village Badal stadium in Sri Muktsar Sahib district. Both stadiums are fitted with ultra modern flood lighting system to showcase cultural programs during opening and closing ceremonies of the event.

He informed that in the men section, 10 national teams from USA, Iran, Pakistan, Denmark, Australia, England, Spain, Canada, Argentina and India and in women teams from USA, India, England, Denmark, Pakistan, New Zealand, Mexico and Azerbaijan are likely to participate in the world cup. Winner teams in men section would get prize money of Rs. 2.00 cr, Rs. 1.00 cr and Rs. 51.00 lac respectively for first three positions whereas women teams be handed over Rs. 1.00 cr, Rs. 51.00 lac and Rs. 25.00 lac respectively.

Besides several organizing committees the government has also formed anti dope committee and security committee for smooth conduct of event. National Anti Doping Agency has been requested to conduct random dope tests during the tournament.
