Gurbani and Aditi setup semi-final clash at All India Ladies Golf Championship

Mumbai: Fancied Gauri Monga of Delhi crashed out in the match play quarter finals of the USHA All India Ladies Amateur Golf Championship 2013, losing to Ridhima Dilawari in a thrilling encounter which was eventually decided on the 21st hole after both golfers were tied at the end of the regulation 18 holes.

Indian Golf Union (IGU) Ladies Amateur Golf Tour Order of Merit leader Gurbani Singh and second placed Aditi Ashok had no such hiccups and came through in close encounters to setup a semi-final clash. Gurbani defeated Amandreep Drall 7-6 while Aditi got the better of Gaurika Bishnoi winning four holes to Gaurika’s three.

Astha Madan booked the other available semi-final berth, taking out opening day giant killer Nikita Arjun 3-2. Gauri, who has had a good 2013, could not find her bearings at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club (BPGC) course and could not be part of the winner’s circle in both the stroke play and match play formats of the Mumbai event. Delhi based Gurbani though, is looking confident enough to back up her victory at the stroke play event with a win in the match play format as well. Aditi has been an old rival and it will be an interesting semi-final on Sunday.

The winners here have the added incentive of being felicitated by badminton star and USHA brand ambassador Saina Nehwal post the finals on Monday.
