Lucknow: The favourites didn't have much difficulty in qualifying for the main rounds of National Six Red Snooker Championship being played here at the Vijayant Khand of Gomti Nagar, Lucknow on Saturday. In the matches which may be billed as the finals to qualify for the next stage, Andhra Pradesh cueist lucky Vatnani was in full control as hr demolished Anurag Giri of in straight frames. His 37-16, 37-27, 40-08 and 71-00 points victory was marked by a fluent clearance of 67 in the last frame.
Manjot Singh of Punjab was quite impressive in his win over KS Naveen Kumar of Karnataka beating him by 49-16, 35-16,09-36,34-08 and 36-23 points to also make it to the main rounds. West Bengal's Snooker tiger Sourav Kothari was in fine form as he trounced J Varun Kumar in five frames at 60-08, 49-16, 41-00,11-43 and 45-24 points to qualify for the mains. He was joined by Kamal Chawla who was a bit too good for Avinash Gupta of Delhi defeating him by 48-00, 45-08, 48-00, 08-36, and 34-25 points too enter the mains.
Promising city lad, Mandeep Singh proved his superiorty over Pulkit Thakural of Delhi to sail into the main round winning by 23-50, 37-13, 37-24, 12-29, 39-23,and 28-25 points potting the decisive black ball after safety exchanges in the sixth frame. Mandeep had defeated Pulkit day before yesterday too in the earlier qualifying rounds. Vipin Premi of UP also made the grade with a smart win over his mate Siddarth Mehra of UP by 17-48, 38-32, 43-04, 23-11, and 31-02 points and qualifying for the main rounds.
Varun Madan of delhi also qualified with a superb show of sound potting and ball positioning to oust Veteran Tamil Nadu player, SA Saleem by 47-18, 01-39, 32-03,00-41, 44-11, 00-49 and 46-11in a very closely contested tie which could have easily gone the other way.
Others who made the grade were Brijesh Damani of West Bengal winning over Aditya Singh Rajput of MP by 4-3 frames which ended in a tantalizing victory for Damani on the decisive black ball in the decider of the match. Chintamani Jhadav of Maharashtra beat Mahesh Aditya of TamilNadu by 4-3 frames. Altamash Saifi of delhi beat Nilesh Nagpal by 4-2 frames to qualify whereas Mark Menezes of Uttar Pradesh avenged his loss earlier to Surya Dev Singh of UP beating him this time by 4-3 frames to enter the main stage.
Puneet Kaushik of Haryana beat Vansh Panjwani of the hosts by 4-2 frames to qualify while Neeraj Kumar of bihar got a good victory over Sachin Pandey of UP by 4-1 frames.
Earlier,Harpreet Singh of Haryana took centre stage winning the needed two matches without any bother to qualify for the main rounds starting on Sunday next. Playing in a consistent manner with some impressive potting and cue- ball control, Harpreet snuffed out the challenge of Jeetu Grover of AP by 32-23, 20-27,31-30,42-00 and 32-33 points. Grover did put up a fight but eventually, keeping his cool, Harpreet pocketed the decisive black to win.
Earlier on, Harpreet had defeated Avinash Kumar of Delhi by 37-28, 44-16, 48-20 and 45-33 in straight manner.
