New Delhi: Eminent international and national Badminton stars, namely PV Sindhu, Jwala Gutta , Ashwini Ponnappa, P. Kashyap, V. Diju, Gurusai Dutt, K. Srikanth and Ajay Jayaram will be seen in action in five days affairs starting from Monday at DDA Squash and Badminton Stadium, Siri Fort in the 35th PSPB Inter – Unit Badminton tournament.
“Engineers India Limited are proud to host the 35th PSPB Inter-Unit Badminton Tournament. PSPB with the help of its member organizations has over the last two decades been encouraging, developing, supervising, coordinating and organizing various sports," said Mr. A. K. Purwaha CMD, Engineers India Limited. "Nurturing talent from the grass root level is PSPB's top priority and we all at EIL are proud to support that endeavor and have several top sportsmen employed by us " he added.
The five-day badminton extravaganza, a prestigious event in the Indian Badminton Calendar, will have the players representing their companies in the keenly contested and prestigious Team Championship. The team championship are decided on a point system with points awarded for Singles and Doubles matches played in the Men’s, Women and Veteran categories.
Seven prominent PSU’s institutions namely- Men’s champions-Indian Oil Corporation, women’s champions- ONGC, Bharat Petroleum, GAIL, OIL, HPCL and hosts- Engineers India Ltd., are participating in the competition.
Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., with world ranking players – Parupalli Kashyap ( WR 14 ), and Ajay Jayaram ( WR 30 ) will be the team to look out for. While BPCL with stars like PV Sindhu ( WR 12 ) and Gurusai Dutt ( WR 23 ) are the other strong team on paper.
Fresh new international quality surfaces are being laid for the championship courts to enable the players perform to their best. And the playing conditions at the beautiful new DDA Squash and Badminton Stadium are acknowledged to be the finest in India . All in all, the stage is set for some scintillating badminton.
