New Delhi: Wrestler Sandeep Tulsi Yadav created history by becoming the first Indian wrestler to win a bronze medal in 66 kg weight category of Greco Roman Style at World Wrestling Championship in Budapest on Sunday.
This is the first medal which has won by any Indian Greco Roman Style Wrestler in Senior World Wrestling Championship.
In the elimination round, Sandeep got a bye. In the second round he defeated Spanish Wrestler Navarro Sanchez Isamel by 5-0 points. The next round was with the Moldova wrestler Cosniceanu Mihali which won by 6-2 points. Unfortunately, in the next bout with the Korean Wrestler Ryu Han Su he lost by 0-10. Since the Korean wrestler entered in the final, the Indian got the chance to qualify for the repechage.
In the repechage round, he defeated Sweden wrestler Vardanyan Shrur by 6-4 and qualified for the final bout for the bronze medal. In the final bout for the bronze, Tulsi again defeated Serbian wrestler Makismovic Aleksandar by 4-0 and bagged the bronze medal for the country.
It is first time, when Indians have won 3 medals, including a solver and two bronze in Senior World Wrestling Championship.
