Mumbai: Mumbaikars got an adrenaline rush when the best of India’s street style footballers from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai performed tricks at the Red Bull Street Style National finals 2013 at In Orbit Mall, Malad on Saturday afternoon.They were judged by Kotaro Tokuda – ‘Tokura’, 2012 Red Bull Street Style World Champion, Indian goalkeeper of India national football team – Subrata Paul and Bollywood choreographer – Gaiti Nair.
In a truly unique live experience, the onlookers witnessed the battle between the country’s finest street style footballers to be crowned champions in the fourth edition of the competition in India.
Four players from each city were chosen at the qualifiers held recently. The rules of the game were simple: 1 ball, 2 players, 3 minutes. The top 16 qualifiers from across four cities in India displayed their skills with the football. Putting their best foot forward, quite literally, each participant performed for 20 seconds before passing the ball to his fellow participant in a face off round. The finalists were judged on their ability to show variety of tricks, display ball control, individual technique and style.
Kotaro Tokuda also showcased his skills at the event. Enthralled by the performances of the contestants, Kotaro Tokuda said, “This is my second time in India and I am thrilled to be here. The style and technique I witnessed here is very different from that in Japan. I saw some very powerful performances today. Krishna has very good control and amazing style and Pradeep and Archis too performed well. I feel that with a bit more grooming, these guys will become world-class freestylers!”
Krishna Limbu along with the top five most promising freestylers will now get a chance to train with Kotaro Tokuda at a master class at Kick in Powai, Mumbai from 28th - 30th July, 2013. The national winner, Krishna will represent India in the Red Bull Street Style World Final in September 2013, in Japan!
