Sri Lanka: The stage is all set for the final showdown betweencollegiate titans from 6 countries across the globe. In its second edition, Red Bull Campus Cricket has stepped up from being a South Asian to a World Series Championship with 6 countries battling it out to become world champions!
Red Bull Energy Drink has been giving ‘wiiings’ to sports enthusiasts around the globe including the world championship winning Formula 1 team, Red Bull Racing. Its first foray in to cricket is the campus cricket championship that was launched in early 2012. The aim is to provide budding cricketers an opportunity to turn their dreams of becoming professional cricketers into a reality. Red Bull Campus Cricket is a platform for college cricket and aims to give wings to the careers of future cricketing superstars!
After a neck to neck competition between some of the best colleges across 6 countries, teams will participate from Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The six contenders will compete for the coveted title of Red Bull Campus Cricket World Series Championship from 2nd to 6th April, 2013 at the famed R Premadasa Cricket stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka
The Indian leg of the championship travelled to 12 top colleges each in the city of Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Jalandhar, Cochin, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Chandigarh during the months of October to January. The Chandigarh team outshined the remaining cities to represent India in the World finals and expressing his excitement, Kunal Mahajan, the team captain says, “This is a life time opportunity for me and my team to play on an international platform against the best teams from 6 countries across the globe and we through this tournament are now making our dream a reality. Our aim is to make India proud and we hope to succeed in our endeavor.”
Red Bull Athlete and Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir said, “From my experience, I feel that it is very important that talent is recognized and nurtured in the right direction from a young age itself and that is exactly the path we have taken. I am very excited about the tournament going global this year and wish the DAV Chandigarh team all the very best.”
