I feared I would break down when I met Yuvraj after his treatment in London: Sachin Tendulkar

New Delhi: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday revealed that he feared he would break down in front of Yuvraj Singh when he met him in London after his treatment in the United States for a rare germ cell cancer. Along with Sachin, Indian captain MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Virat Kohli was also there who shared their emotional moments that they had with Yuvraj.

"When I went to meet him in London, I told my wife that I don’t want to breakdown in front of him. I met him and gave him a tight hug. We enjoyed a meal and from the way he (Yuvraj) ate, I was convinced that he is on a right track and will be back soon," Tendulkar told during the release of Yuvraj's book "The Test of My Life'.

Tendulkar got emotional while recalling that moment and said, "When I saw my wife discussing medical terms with Yuvraj at that point I realised what my younger brother has gone through and I would ask God why this happened to him."

On a serious note, Dhoni said, “I knew about Yuvraj's rare germ cancer way before he told me. When his test reports came, someone told me he has cancer and I was shocked for a moment and I just said 'are you sure’.”

On a lighter vein, Dhoni recalled how Yuvraj welcomed him in the Indian team back in 2004-05. "Sirf chakke marne se kuch nahi hota hai, match jitane pe appreciation milta hai," he said.
"First I used to refer to him as 'aap' and from then it came down to 'tum' and now it is 'tu'," Dhoni said.

On a lighter vein, Yuvraj said that he was surprised when he got an SMS from Dhoni while he was in the United States. "I replied in the SMS 'is it real Dhoni' because it is so hard to get through to him."

Rising-star of Indian Cricket, Virat Kohli shared one of the incidents when in hotel room Yuvraj was coughing a lot and there were medicines lying beside the backside table.

"I asked him paaji why are you coughing so much. And he replied because he has cancer. I thought it's his habit of fooling around with people. I told him not to joke and I left the room," he said.

Harbhajan Singh, who was also present at this event, said, "During Yuvi's illness, I simply avoided bringing up the discussion of his disease and I always asked about the girl he is going to date when he is back after treatment."
