It’s raining sixes at the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals

Colombo: Kicking off day two at the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals, were perennial rivals, India and Pakistan. Nerves were on edge as a lot of pride was riding on this match for Karachi University, Pakistan and D. A. V. College Chandigarh, India. Pakistan lost the toss and were put into bat first. It was a mixed first 10 overs for both teams with Pakistan losing four wickets but regularly finding the boundary.

The star of day one, the big-hitting Faraz Ali was dismissed for a duck and India’s Gurinder Singh was once again among the wickets. Pakistan opener Ammar Hasan made up for his golden duck the previous day with a well-timed 85 - inclusive of nine fours and four sixes - anchoring the innings. He continued to press on with his attack and secured a final score of 138/9.

Jaskaran Singh and Deepak Sharma walked to the pitch with confidence after India’s dominant batting performance on day one. The Pakistani opening attack of Meer Hamza and Nabeel Khalid responded with vicious fast bowling, harking back to the days when Mohammad Sami and Shoaib Akhtar opened for Pakistan. The two batsmen cut loose after the third over, guiding the ball to the boundary or lifting it way over the ropes.

Spinner, Shahzaib Ahmad put an end to the 61-run opening stand by dismissing Sharma for 28. But that didn’t stop Jaskaran Singh from dispatching the ball into the stands with ease. After a blistering innings of 75 with five massive sixes, he was unfortunately run-out attempting a quick single. Indian Skipper Kunal Mahajan came in and bludgeoned two mighty sixes to take India to victory by eight wickets.

Jaskaran Singh was devastating in form, placing the ball wherever he pleased and his 75-run knock won him the ‘Man of the Match’ award, ensuring that India are now firm favourites to enter the semi finals.
