Mumbai: After getting dropped from the Indian Test squad for the fourth Test, road hasn’t been so easy for Indian ace swing bowler Zaheer Khan. He has not played any form of cricket since he picked up a calf injury during Mumbai’s last league game against Gujarat at the D Y Patil Stadium in December. Zaheer khan has not lived up to his expectation in the season gone by.
At 34, his fitness troubles appear to signal his decline as an international force and there are plenty of questions about his ability to make a comeback. However, he does not contemplate retirement in immediate future and hopes to play for another 3-4 years.
Recently he said that he wanted to continue to carry on his role as leading strike bowler for Indian Team for next three to four years and he felt that he had enough cricket left in him. “I want to give cent per cent to Indian Cricket in every possible way,” he said.
He added, “I will make sure I come back and come back strong in every aspect whether its fitness or fielding. I want to cover all angles now and use this time really wisely in preparing. I know that I won’t be fit for Irani Trophy. So an exact plan for the return date is yet to be sketched out.”
He was very happy to see the way the new ball bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shami Ahmed performed in the ODI series against England and arch-rival Pakistan and said competition should be healthy to keep everyone in good shape for upcoming challenges.
