Watson says Australia will take a cue from England’s recent success in India

Chennai: Australian all-rounder Shane Watson who has been in a tremendous form in the recent practice matches says Australia will take a cue from England’s recent success in India.

“We will take the tips and tricks from what England did few months back and will try our level best to win this very important series. England certainly showed how to pile up heaps of runs on these pitches. If we can start up good then getting those big runs on the board will be a much easier task. In India, start has to be a solid one otherwise it puts your middle-order under pressure." Watson said, adding that Indian spinners would be surely going having an upper-hand on them because of the conditions and their mastery on the skill of how to spin the ball both ways.

“But teams like England and South Africa have shown that if you are at your best, then you can have success here, so there's no reason why we can't," Watson added.

“In absence of Hussey and Ricky Ponting, Clarke and I will be sharing that burden of getting the best from our players. And as I have played good amount of cricket in India, I am expecting a good performance from my part,” he said on being whether the Aussies would miss Ponting and Hussey in this series.

Thanking IPL for the improvement in his game, Watson said, "The IPL has been a huge catalyst to my improvement as a cricketer, especially because I was not in the Australian team at that stage. It gave me the opportunity to play a world-class competition even though I was not playing for Australia."

Watson confirmed that he will bat at No. 4 in most probability. “If everyone is fit, then yes (No. 4), I've got as much experience batting in these conditions whether in the middle-order or at the top of the order, so Michael and I will play a very important part in this series in terms of batting in that middle-order because it can be difficult."
