Winning European tournament can give a real boost to the game: Sharmila Nicollet

New Delhi: Sharmila Nicollet who is the only Indian to have retained her LET card for the second consecutive year is confident ahead of the new season. She said that it is her aim is to win a tournament in Europe as it is the only thing that can give women’s golf a boost in the country.

“Last year was not good for me but this year I have done a lot of changes. I have started yoga and have worked a lot on my game. I am looking forward to this season and my aim is to break into the top 20 at the end of the season,” Sharmila said.

Sharmila who is currently ranked 4th in the Hero Order of Merit in Women Professional Golf Tour 2013 said that she will be a bit more choosy in selecting the tournaments this year.

“Last year I was under tremendous pressure to hold my card and I played all the tournaments that came my way and that affected my performance as well. This time around I will focus on improving my game and will be a bit more selective in choosing the event,” she said.

Sharmila who will lead the Indian challenge in the upcoming Business Today Pro Am of Champions said that she is working on her swing among other aspects of her game.

“I have been practicing on my swing, apart from that I am also working on my putting as that is the area I struggle in.”

Sharmila who is a big fan of Saina Nehwal said that she would like to do what Saina has done in badminton.

“Saina is around my age and she has achieved tremendous heights, she has done wonderfully well at international arena and that has made a serious impact on the game. I want to do something like that in the game of golf. It is great news that golf will be a part of Olympics and it is my dream to win an Olympic medal for the country,” Sharmila said.
