Bangalore: Pakistan defeated India by five wickets in the first T20 played at Bangalore. India scored 133 runs and Pakistan overcame the target with two deliveries to spare. Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni after the loss said that the total they put was not good enough and 10-15 runs more would have come in handy.
“We should have got more runs. We got a good start, fantastic effort by the openers but then we kept losing wickets after that. We were short by 10 or 15 more runs which we should have got easily. 145 would have been a safe score on this track," Dhoni said.
Dhoni also blamed the bowlers for bowling too short and not pitching it up to the bat. “Our bowlers needed to pitch the ball up and not bowl short," Dhoni said.
Pakistan captain Mohammed Hafeez who played a brilliant innings and was awarded the man-of-the-match said, “It is a great effort, we wanted to do well at the start of the series. Irfan was the surprise package for us and everybody. We knew that we had a good attack. We knew that Gul is always good with the old ball, they restricted India where we wanted them to.”
On chasing the target, he said, “Once the spinners came on after the new ball, we knew we had a chance, we took risks at the right time.”
