Vengsarkar, Wadekar bat for Dhoni as captain

Bhubaneshwar: Stating that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only option left to lead India as of now, former Indian captains Dilip Vengsarkar and Ajit Wadekar on Wednesday batted for the current skipper, who has been facing a lot of criticism of late for the cricket team's failures.

They also criticised Duncan Fletcher, terming the India coach as "less than average" and said that the team has been losing ever since the Zimbabwean took over from Gary Kirsten.

"At the moment Dhoni is the only one in form. He should continue as India do not have an option," Vengsarkar said after reaching here along with Ajit Wadekar to attend the golden jubilee celebration of a city-based sports club.

Praising Pakistan for their stupendous show, vengsarkar said, "Pakistan played extremely well and outclassed India in all departments of the game. India need to improve a lot as the coming matches with England are very important.”

Vengsarkar, former chairman of the selection committee, also held excess cricket as one of the factors responsible for the recent failures of India.

Wadekar too was in all praise for Dhoni. "He has been responsible for victory of Team India on many occasions," Wadekar said.
