Ability to adapt to different situations quickly is key to my success: Joe Root

Dharamsala: Young British batsman Joe Root, who has made an impressive start to his career by scoring runs consistently against India, on Saturday said the key to his success lies in the ability to adapt to different situations quickly.

After playing a brilliant knock of 73 on debut in the Nagpur Test, Root has been among runs in the on-going One-day series with scores of 36, 39 and 57 in three matches in which he has got a chance to bat.

"It's nice to be scoring some runs consistently. It's happened very quickly for me as I am trying to gradually find my feet in the international arena. I am trying to learn day by day and continue to hone my cricketing skills," Root, who has been one of the most consistent England batsman in the ODI series, said on the eve of the fifth and final ODI.

When asked about the weather and conditions in Dharamsala, Root said “Breath-taking, lovely place, lovely scenery. It’s a great way to finish this tour.”

The 22-year-old, having earned praise from his counter-part Virat Kohli on his first tour, has come up with a series of confident performances. Obviously, he is pumped up and in great touch to end the series with a strong performance on Sunday.

“As individuals, we have got a lot to play for. We have a big series coming up in New Zealand. A lot of people will try to make a strong case for that. Any international game, you want to win. Everyone in the dressing-room will have a mind-set going into tomorrow,” said Root, who is part of the England team in all three formats.
Looking back at the series, Root makes no secret of his feelings.

“Obviously very disappointed with the way the series has gone for us. It’s been nice to score some runs and put in a few performances but it always feels a little bit better when you come out winning especially in sub-continent pitches.”

“I will try to contribute as much as I can to lift the team from difficult circumstances and add more stability to lower middle order by keeping price on my wicket.”
