It was a good toss to win: Alastair Cook

Dharamsala: Having won a very important toss, Alastair Cook first restricted India to low score of 226 and then Ian Bell with his unbeaten century ensured a comprehensive win for England. Alastair Cook was very pleased with the overall performance of his team in their seven-wicket win over India at the HPCA Stadium here on Sunday. The outcome not only helped them in reducing the loss margin to 2-3, it would also help them in staying positive for their upcoming tour of New-Zealand.

“It was good win today, it was a good toss to win, but our bowlers bowled really well by picking up wickets at regular intervals and didn’t allowed Indian batsmen to settle down. Bresnan and Finn got early breakthroughs today. Our top four guns fired really well and Bell played an outstanding knock,” said Cook.

“The pitch was doing something all day, so it was important to stick around with wickets in hands, it is important with the new rules that are introduced. We have good positives to take from this series in the form of young lad Joe Root who performed really well alongside him James Tredwell also bowled really good spells in this series. It has been a fantastic three months in India,” added Cook.

Meanwhile, Ian Bell, who got the man-of-the-match award added, “Our bowlers set up the win but 220 odd was a competitive score especially in these conditions where ball was nipping back every now and then. I really love to bat up the order and very pleased with my batting form and hopefully I can continue do this in future.”
