Ashwin optimistic about India's chances on final day

Nagpur: Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin stayed confident that India will be able to bowl out the remaining of the English batters and pull off the series level victory on the fifth day of the final Test here on Monday.

"Strange things have happened. We are not trying to be too optimistic, but we have done it before in India and we can take six or seven wickets in a session. It is about trying to get a couple of wickets tomorrow morning," Ashwin said after the fourth day’s play.

"We have bowled well today. We are pushing for a win and nothing got out of hand. We just have to stick to it, try to see if we can squeeze in a couple of wickets early morning," he added.

Ashwin however defended India’s defensive strategy in the morning session of fourth day where they never showed any intent of scoring runs at a fast rate.

"We had to just wipe out the lead and eat as much into the lead as possible so that whatever they score after that it becomes an even game," said the young off-spinner.
