Pujara has the temperament to become a complete Test batsman: Gavaskar

Mumbai: In all praise for Cheteshwar Pujara, who went on to score yet another century after the top order Indian batsmen failed on the first day of second Test at Wankhade Stadium on Friday, legendary Sunil Gavaskar complemented that the youngster had the temperament to become a complete Test batsman.

"He has the temperament to become a complete Test batsman. He is simply terrific. He has shown his mettle and he`ll be able to do it abroad as well. It is temperament which separates men from boys and he has that in plenty," Gavaskar told NDTV.

After the retirement of Rahul Dravid, stepping into his shoes at No. 3 position was a big ask, but Pujara justified his inclusion into the squad first against the Kiwis and then by remaining unbeaten in the first Test as well as he scored a double hundred and 41 in India`s nine-wicket win.

"It`s difficult wicket to bat, there was a lot of spin which is expected in Mumbai. When acknowledged batsmen do not get runs, you worry a bit for sure," said Gavaskar, defending India`s decision to play three spinners.

"It`s just the kind of wicket Harbhajan needed. With Ashwin and Harbhajan there nobody is going to relax. It will benefit the Indian team," Gavaskar said.
