1st Test: Openers put India in charge against England

New Delhi: Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir put up an unbeaten century stand to lead India’s charge against England in the morning session of the first Test against England here today.

Virender Sehwag (79 off 66 balls) and Gautam Gambhir (37 off 103 balls) put up a partnership of 120 from 28 overs.

This was their first century stand since Centurion in 2010 against South Africa.

After India won the toss and opted to bat first, the openers started off well and mixed the innings with aggression and caution.

The under fire openers looked determined to score runs complemented each other well. While Sehwag started opening up after seeing the initial threat, Gambhir was happy to rotate the strike and play the role of an anchor.

Sehwag hit 12 boundaries and a six while Gambhir struck three fours.
