Life ban on Azharuddin illegal, says Andhra Pradesh high court

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh high court termed the life ban imposed on former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin by the Board of Control for Cricket in India illegal. A division bench of the Andhra Pradesh high court said that the ban was unsustainable by law.

BCCI banded Azharuddin from playing cricket for life on Dec. 5, 2000 after finding him guilty of match-fixing.

Azhar challenged BCCI’s decision in the City Civil Court, which upheld the ban. After that he moved to high court against the lower court's order.

Azharuddin is one of India’s most successful captain and played 99 Test matches for the country.
