Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar made his intentions clear ahead of the India-England Test by scoring a scintillating century, laced with 21 fours and three massive sixes, in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy opener against Railways, and that for sure has become a cause of concern for England captain Alastair Cook.
"We are certainly not writing Tendulkar off," Cook said at an event organised by Tata Motors' Jaguar Land Rover and Castrol.
Sachin played was very cautious in the beginning of his innings and hit his first boundary after spending more than half-an-hour at the crease. The Little Master was a bit circumspect against the pacers but punished the spinners on every given opportunity. He completely changed the pace of his innings in the last session after reaching his half-century. He overtook Rahane in no time and got to his century following some clean strikes. He looked in murderous form and got his strike-rate above hundred before he got out in the dying minutes.
In India's 4-0 drubbing in England last year, Tendulkar had scored 273 runs in four matches, with the highest score of 91 at the Oval in London.
Cook's teammate spinner Greame Swann said he would have loved to see former captains Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly in the Indian squad.
"I would love Dravid and Ganguly still to be playing," Swann said.
