Sydney Sixers thumped Highveld Lions in the finals of the Champions League Twenty20 at Wanderers, Johannesburg. Sixers were the best team of the tournament and remained unbeaten in the competition.
In the finals they were right on the money from the first ball and never allowed the Lions to get back in the game. It was a one-sided game where Lions posted 121 runs which the Sixers chased down in the 13th over without losing a single wicket.
Let’s have a look at some of the hits and flops from both innings.
Lions:
Hits:
Jean Symes: He was the only Lions’ player who showed some fight against the dominant Sixers. Symes came when his team was in a precarious position at 9-4, he then showed immense maturity and took the Lions innings forward. Throughout his innings he ensured that he never goes in a shell and kept the score board moving. He scored 51 runs.
Flops:
Alviro Petersen: Petersen has struggled in the entire tournament and once again failed. It is true that he got a good ball but it is expected from a Test opener to be able to negotiate the good deliveries.
Neil McKenzie: McKenzie has been very good for the Lions in the entire tournament and it will be wrong to point a finger at him for one failure. Having said so, it was disappointing the way he got himself out. He came in with Lions losing two early wickets and he got out trying to hoic a delivery towards square-leg.
Sydney Sixers:
Hits:
Nathan McCullum: Brad Haddin surprised everyone when he gave the new ball to his spinners but in the end that proved out to be a master stroke. McCullum got the inform Gulam Bodi in his first over. He then came back to get two more wickets in his second spell.
Michael Lumb: He played an outstanding innings of 82 runs to ensure that Sixers chase down the target with ease. He took some time to get settled and exploded after that. He was dropped once but apart from that was very convincing with his stroke-play. He also became the highest run-scorer of the tournament in the process.
‘
Josh Hazlewood: He has been god throughout the tournament and was once again at his best. He was the one who got the crucial wickets of McKenzie and Symes. He finished with the figures of 3-22.
Brad Haddin: He had a perfect day in the field. He was very impressive with his captaincy and was good behind the wickets even with an injury to his hand. With the bat, he played a crucial role and ensured that Lumb gets maximum strike. He scored 31 unbeaten runs.
