Johannesberg: Sydney Sixers produced an all-round clinical performance to maul Highveld Lions by10 wickets in the Champions League T20 final on Sunday. Crediting his team for such a stupendous performance in the final, Sixers skipper Brad Haddin said that his team’s preparation coming into the championships was outstanding.
"The preparation for this game was outstanding. T20 is about going for the gut feeling. Everyone expected us to start with the fast bowlers but we decided to take the pace off the ball. The positive we can take is the whole team contributed at various stages," said Haddin.
Meanwhile Highveld Lions captain Alviro Petersen said, "We started poorly. I don't think a lot of people gave us a chance to reach the final. You can't put your finger on why we lost today. It’s disappointing though. We could have put a better show. But I am really happy with the way the guys have performed as a unit."
Man of the Match is Michael Lumb, who also got the Golden Bat for being the highest run-scorer, was in all praise for the Lions bowlers, especially Dirk nannes and Sohail Tanvir, who bowled well initially. "Dirk and Sohail bowled well early on. Later the ball came on quite nicely on to the bat. I got to take my hat off to the rest of the guys," said Lumb.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc, who was Man of the Series, said, “The extra bounce and pace was good. Our spinners showed class today. Josh deserved a lot more wickets than he got. My first experience in South Africa has been a great one."
