Phogat wins second medal for India at World Championship, creates history

New Delhi: Geeta Phogat created history as she became the second Indian grappler to win a medal at the Women’s World Wrestling Championship in Edmonton, Canada today.

After her sister Babita broke the six year’s jinx by winning a bronze in the 51 kgs freestyle, Geeta won a bronze in the 55 kg weight category.

Phogat beat Ukraine's Nataliya Synyshyn 3:0 in the final of repechage 1 round.

Earlier in the tournament, the 2012 Olympian beat Akziya Dautbayeva of Kazakhasthan in the first repechage round.

Silpi Sheoran and Navjot Kaur of India finished fifth in 59 and 67 kg categories.
