Edmonton, Canada: Babita Kumari became the second women grappler from India to win a medal at the World Championships since 2006.
Kumari won a bronze medal in the 51kg category and her medal came six years after Alka Kumari had last won it.
She started off by beating Hsin-Ju Chiu in the semi-qualification round and then beat Japan’s Risako Kawai in the qualification.
Kumari however lost out in the semifinals against Canada's Jessica Anne Marrie Macdonald Bondy. But the recovered soon enough to beat Russian Zamira Rakhmanova in the repechage round to clinch the medal.
