Virat Kohli once again showed why he is considered to be the hottest property in one-dayers. The dashing player from Delhi is in magical touch and his dream run just doesn’t seem to stop. He has scored four hundreds in his past five innings and now has 12 one-day hundreds to his name.
Kohli has been severe on the Lankan bowlers and has got three back-to-back hundreds against the neighbors. What is more menacing is the way he gets his runs; he looks at ease whenever he is on the crease and the way he dominates the bowling is a treat to watch.
Kohli still has a long way to go to establish as a Test player, but when it comes to ODIs he is probably the most dangerous batsmen in the world. The man who is considered to be the future captain of India is quickly climbing the ranks and all the one-day records look in danger with the way he is playing.
He has played some unbelievable innings off-late and most of his run has come at crucial times, let’s have a look at some of his best one day hundreds.
183 against Pakistan at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur: This innings is not just Kohli’s best innings, but it is also considered as the best one-day innings of all times. India were chasing a mammoth total of 330 runs and Kohli played the innings of his life scoring 183 most beautiful runs. Pakistan bowling has always been good but the way Kohli toyed with them it looked as if was playing against some club cricketers. In what was a very emotional innings for him, Kohli hit 22 fours and one six. India achieved the target with more than two overs to go and it was all because of this young batting sensation.
133 against Sri Lanka at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, Australia: Before this match, India was suffering Down Under, but this one inning changed the equation and the mood in the camp as well as in the country. India were virtually out of the competition as they had a humongous target ahead of themselves- scoring 320 runs in 40 overs. It looked like an impossible task, but Kohli had different ideas. Such was the affect of his innings that India reached the target in the 37th over. He made a mockery of the Sri Lankan bowlers and took all of them to the cleaners. Lasith Malinga who is considered to be one of the best bowlers in shot formats conceded 96 runs in the 7.4 overs that he bowled. Kohli took only 86 deliveries to score 133 runs, the innings that included 16 boundaries and two sixes.
118 against Australia at ACA-VDCA Stadium Visakhapatnam: India were chasing a stiff target of 290 runs and had a terrible start losing the first two wickets for the score of 35. India were behind the eight ball, but Kohli took the matter in his hands and punished the new Australian attack. He never lost his cool and maintained a good tempo throughout his innings. He hit 11 boundaries and one six in his 121 ball 118.
107 England at SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff, Wales: All the Indian batsmen apart from Rahul Dravid surrendered meekly to the English fast bowlers in the Test matches and things were expected to change in the one-dayers. It was the last match of the tour and Kohi ensured that for once, Indian batsmen dictate terms to the opponent bowlers. He scored 107 runs of just 93 balls and hit nine fours and one six to take India past the 300 mark. India would have done better in the match if not for rain and some poor bowling in the death overs.
107 against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in 2009: Kohli couldn’t have chosen a better place than the Eden Gardens to hit his maiden ton. India chasing a target of 316 runs saw this young man taking the onus on himself and the world got to see the talent this young man possesses. He scored 107 runs of just 114 deliveries and looked in control.
