I have nothing to lose in Olympics: Amit Kumar

Representing the country in Olympics often sees an athlete going through sleepless nights and tense moments but then young Indian wrestler Amit Kumar negated any such feelings saying that he does feel any pressure and is taking the mega event as any other tournament.

“I feel no pressure as I know I have it in me to win. Taking pressure would not help me win and rather it would pull my performance down. If I have to win, it would be by the way how I perform on a given day. I do not fear anything and I have nothing to lose. Because even if I come back without a medal, I still can assure everyone that I would give my best shot,” said Amit during the send-off function of Indian Wrestling Contingent to the Olympics.

The 19 year old wrestler said that only thing that he knows ahead of Olympics is that he is going to be at his best and medals if they have to come they would. “It is the dream of every athlete to win an Olympic medal. Even though I know that I am capable of winning a medal, but then it is not at the back of my mind. A constant thought like that it would hamper my performance and I do not want that to happen,” he added.

Amit who is the youngest member of the Indian wrestling contingent however said that that even though he qualified for the Olympics he never saw it coming and had actually targeted 2016 and it was all due to some hard training and good training that saw him earn his London cut.
Amit who along with the other Olympics bound wrestlers were in the camp at Colorado Springs said that the stint helped him a lot to get acquainted with the European wrestlers.

“The training in America was good. They had some experienced coaches there and helped us a lot in understanding the European style of wrestling. The camp also helped us increase our stamina and speed,” said the wrestler.

Talking about their upcoming conditioning-cum-training camp at Belarus ahead of the London Olympic Games, where they would hone their skills furthermore, the 66-kg freestyle wrestler said, “First off al I would have to lose weight as I am currently five kgs over my category. I am taking camp as a medium to improve my speed, power and also refine my counter attack.”

Olympics would see top wrestlers from the whole world and even though all of pose a threat to his chances, he is expecting a steep challenge from Iran, Russia, Cuba, Japan and Korea.
