Dhoni’s success as captain can be attributed to the good team he got at his disposal: Sehwag

Noida: Opening batsman Virender Sehwag opines that Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s success as captain can be attributed to the good team that he got at his disposal. Asked about Dhoni’s strength that made him win two World Cups as skipper, the Najafgarh Nawab said that with a strong team it becomes easy to perform.

"Dhoni got a very strong team. When you get a strong team, it is easier to perform well just like Australia did at one point of time. We won World Cup because we had a very strong team which was ably backed by Dhoni's leadership," said Sehwag.

Backing Sachin Tendulkar’s decision of opting out of Sri Lanka series, Sehwag said that the Master Blaster will be missed but then he should be allowed to pick and choose the series he wants. "Sachin is always missed when not in action. But then he is 39 years old and he should be allowed to pick and choose whichever series he wants to go. He will certainly be available for the Test series against New Zealand," Sehwag said at the inauguration of Saba Karim-Genesis Pro-Cricket Centre here.

Talking about his fitness, Sehwag said he is fully fit and raring to go. "In IPL, I played almost all the matches and I don’t any fitness issue now. The ODI tour of Sri Lanka will also help me in preparing for the Twenty20 World Cup to be held there," he said.

Defending the members of India A team which had a dismal performance in West Indies, Sehwag said that the performance does not necessarily talk about dearth of talent in India. "There will be some who will get runs and some who would fail in these kinds of tours. But this does not mean that those who fail are not good enough. The best part is that you can make mistakes and learn from it," said Sehwag.
