Bengal storm into the quarters of Vijay Hazare Trophy

Kolkata: Bengal notched a convincing 69 runs bonus point victory over Assam of the Vijay Hazare Trophy played here to top the East Zone Leg proceed into the quarter finals.  

Electing to bat first, Bengal rode on fine half centuries posted by Shreevats Goswami (69) and Wriddhiman Saha (72) to pile up a respectable total of 236.

 

For Assam pick of the bowler was the left-arm spinner Deepak Gohain who picked up three wickets by away 62 runs, while Gokul Sharma and Tarjinder Singh scalped two wickets apiece.

 

Assam’s chase never had the conviction struggled in building their innings and were piled up for 169 to crash out of the tournament.

 

In the another East Zone match, Orissa beat defending champions Jharkhand by five wickets played at the Jadavpur University grounds.

 

Send into bat, Jharkhand scored 254 for six in their allotted 50 overs. For Jharkhand Kumar Deobrat (72), skipper Saurabh Tiwary (57) and Subroto Ghosh (48) were the notable contributors.

 

Orissa got off to a flying with opener Paresh Patel belting an 87-ball 79 and later an undefeated 69-run stand by Sujit Lenka and Bibhudutta Panda saw Orrisa home.
