Jalandhar: Punjab Police, Jalandhar and Punjab and Sind Bank, Delhi opened their account with wins on the inaugural day of 28th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park here on Saturday.
Punjab Police beat EME, Jalandhar by 4 – 0, while Punjab & Sind Bank beat Corp of Signal, Jalandhar by 4 - 0.
Punjab & Sind Bank displayed some good hockey and soon managed to open their account the 10th minute through Kulwinder Singh, making it 1-0. In the 15th minute, DIlair Singh sounded the board through a penalty corner (2-0), while in the 22nd minute Karamjit Singh consolidated with a field goal, making it 3-0. In the 31st minute, Vikramjit Singh converted a penalty corner for a 4-0 lead. At half time, Punjab & Sind Bank were leading by 4-0. However no goals were scored from either side in the second half.
Meanwhile, Punjab Police, Jalandhar edged out EME Jalandhar by 4-0 in the first match in Pool A. Olympian Gaganajit Singh and Baljit singh Dhillon displayed some good hockey, which was reminiscent of their old days. Punjab Police opened their account in the 25th minute when Jagmit singh scored the field goal from the right flank (1-0). In the 38th minute of the second half, Punjab Police consolidated the lead (2-0) through Satwinder Singh, who made no mistake in converting the pass from Gaganajit Singh. In the 41st minute, Olympian Baljit Singh Dhillon converted the penalty corner (3-0), while Satwinder scored his second goal in the 44th minute to complete the tally (4-0).
