World-class field for Hero Women’s Indian Open

Gurgaon: There will be no less than 27 nationalities represented in the fifth Hero Women’s Indian Open which promises to be one of strongest events on the Ladies European Tour in 2011. The $ 300,000 event to be held from December 9 to 11, 2011 at the DLF Golf and Country Club, will include winners of the last three editions and no less than eight players who between them have won 10 titles on the LET this season.



Apart from the defending champion, Laura Davies, the English legend, who has more than 80 titles worldwide in a career spanning over 25 years, the field also includes Caroline Hedwall, the latest sensation on the European Tour. The 23-year-old Swede has already won three titles this season and besides leading the Rookie of the year race, she is also third on the overall, Henderson Money List.

Hedwall’s wins this season include Allianz Ladies Slovak Open, Finnair Masters and the UNIQA Ladies Open Golf.

Christina Kim of the United States, one of the most flamboyant players on the women’s circuit formerly on the LPGA and now LET, will also tee up as one of the marquee players this year.,

Interestingly Lee-Ann Pace, winner of the Henderson Money List honours in 2010 is back for the event, as are winners of the previous four money lists, including Sophie Gustafson (2009); Gwladys Nocera (2008); Sophie Gustafson (2007); and Laura Davies (2006). Overall six players from the current field between them have won the LET Order of Merit 15 times since 1985. Davies has won the Money List a record seven times.

The last three winners, Phatlum Pornanong (Tha) 2008, 2009 and Laura Davies (Eng). Interestingly Gwladys Nocera (Swe), winner of the 2008 Indian Masters in Bangalore is also slated to come for the event this year.
