Women’s golf: Amandeep steals the show on day two

Amandeep Drall2Bengaluru: Rookie Amandeep Drall fired a career best round of 6 under 65 to lead the field after Round Two of the 14th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2015 at the Clover Greens here on Thursday. Three strokes behind is Delhi’s Vani Kapoor, who finished with a total score of 138 after the second round. The INR 5,00,000 event will culminate tomorrow.

Amandeep, who began the day in third position, was in red-hot form and played a flawless front nine with four birdies on the 2nd, 4th, 7th and 9th holes. In the back nine, she carded three birdies on the 10th, 17th and 18th holes, with a lone blemish on the 11th. The Panchkula professional finished with a total score of 135 after two rounds to remain within striking distance of her second professional title.

Hero Order of Merit leader Vani Kapoor started well, playing a bogey-free front nine with birdies on the 5th and 7th holes. However, she could not sustain the momentum in the latter half, as she dropped four shots on the 10th, 16th,17th and 18th holes, with a lone birdie on the 15th. She returned a card of 1 over 72.

Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi is in third position with a total score of 139. Neha started shakily with a bogey on the very first hole. However, she quickly regained her composure, firing four birdies on the 2nd, 4th, 7th and 8th holes. In the back-nine, she carded two more birdies on the 11th and 12th holes, but bogies on the 10th and 16th meant she had to finish the day with a score of 3 under 68, and be content with the third spot.
Hero Motocorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet could not replicate her day one form and returned with a score of 2 over 73 to be placed fourth on the leaderboard. The Bengaluru professional carded a birdie on the 2nd hole, along with three bogies on the 8th, 14th and 18thholes. She ended with a total score of 141 after 36 holes.

Pune’s Shweta Galande is in fifth position with a total of 147. She started cautiously and carded two birdies on the 6th and 8th holes, along with the same number of bogies on the 1st and 5th in her front nine. She played a birdie-less back nine with a bogey on the 13thhole, to return with a card of 1 over 72.

Delhi’s Gauri Monga came up with an effort of 2 over 73 on the second day to be placed sixth after two rounds. Gauri’s round consisted of four bogies and two birdies, as she finished with a total score of 148.

Kaputhala’s Gursimar Badwal is in seventh position with a total of 149, followed by Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana in eighth position at 150. Jaipur’s Afshan Fatima and amateur Trisha Sunil of Bengaluru are in tied ninth position with identical totals of 153.
