New Delhi: Piyush Sangwan who was tied for the third place overnight, shot a brilliant round of 2 under par 70 in the second and final round to emerge as the champion of the inaugural Salwan Cup – NCR school golf championship. Piyush representing American Public School, finished with a tournament score of level par 144 and was a five-stroke winner over Vinay Kumar Yadav of GB Pant Sarvodaya Bal Vidayalaya.
In the girls category, Indian team member Seher Atwal, cousin of Arjun Atwal emerged victorious with a total of 6-over 78. Afshan Fatima finished as the runner-up with two strokes behind.
The brainchild of Sushil Salwan, Chairman of the Salwan Education Trust, the Salwan Cup aims at making golf an integral part of the school curriculum. As many as 48 boys from over 25 schools and 12 girls from eight schools participated in the two-day event.
