Chennai: U.M. Gugan Verma of India defeated Germany's Michael Ackermann 6-3, 6-3 in a first qualifying round match of the ITF men's Futures tennis tournament at the SDAT-Nungambakkam Stadium here on Saturday.
Top Indian players, Vishnu Vardhan and Yuki Bhambri, have withdrawn from the tournament citing injury and medical reasons, according to a press release from Tamil Nadu Tennis Association.
