Smith to lead Australia in absence of Clarke, Hazlewood to make debut in 2nd Test

Young fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is set to make his long-awaited debut, while left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc too have been recalled as Australia on Tuesday named their team for the second cricket Test against India starting at the Gabba in Brisbane on Wednesday, says a report in The Hindu, adding that Australia will have a new-look pace attack as Hazlewood and Starc will replace injured Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle, who was dropped from the side that won the first Test by 48 runs in Adelaide on Saturday.

“I think this pitch will suit Josh perfectly,” new skipper Steven Smith said while announcing the team on the eve of the second Test. “He’s very skilful for his age and I’m just looking forward to seeing him zing a few through and bowl with that extra bit of pace and bounce as well.”

According to a report in The Indian Express, Harris was ruled out with a slight strain to his quadriceps while Siddle was dropped from the team that won the first Test in Adelaide by 48 runs on Saturday. Marsh rejoined the Test team for the first time since February and will bat at five, with new captain Steve Smith moving up the order to take Clarke’s spot at four.

“I just thought taking over the captaincy and a bit of extra responsibility that I’d step up to No.4 and get the job done there,” Smith said, adding “I don’t think there’s a big difference between batting four and five so that’s just the way I’ve gone with it.”
