Somdev not surprised at getting wildcard entry in Olympics, says that he always had a chance

According to a report in The Times of India Indian singles tennis player Somdev Devvarman said that he was surprised when he got a singles wild card entry for the London Olympics. "The news that I got a wild card for the Olympics was not a total surprise, I always had a chance. Anyway I am happy that I got it,” the report quoted him as saying.

Talking about his preparation, he further added, “"Look I have been preparing and playing for last 15 years and by now I am feeling superb and mentally prepared. After the 2010 Asian Games where I was at my peak, I played against the top players - be it Nadal, Federer or Murray. I also beat some players who were among the top 30. I was number 62, the highest ranking any Indian men's player had earned after Ramesh Krishnan."

Meanwhile The Indian Express reported that Somdev who had been sidelined for last eight months due to a shoulder injury is fully fit now and is now raring to go. “This is the first time in my career that I had such an injury. My shoulder used to hurt but I overlooked it and then it became quiet bad. So I had surgery in November and now I am fully fit,” he was quoted by the Indian Express.
