Sania-Bhupathi crashes out of Wimbledon, Paes-Stepanek cruise into last 16

 

A report in The Hindu writes that French Open winning pair of Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi crashed out of the mixed doubles event at the Wimbledon Championships after they lost 6-1, 6-3 to Australia’s Paul Hanley and Russia’s Alla Kudryavtseva in just 50 minutes.

According to the report the Indian pair which got a bye in the first round was expected to make it to the last 16 but then never looked comfortable against their opponents and exited from the competition.

Meanwhile Mail Today reported that Mail Today writes that Indian tennis stalwarts Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes had different fortunes in the Wimbledon with Bhupathi getting knocked out of the mixed doubles event whereas Paes moving into the round three.

Mirza-Bhupathi lost 3-6, 1-6 in their mixed doubles event but then Paes along with his Czech partner Radek Stepanek picked up a 6-2, 6-4, 7-6(5) victory over the Israeli pair of Jonathan Elrich and Andy Ram.

The report says that Indo-Czech pair seeded fourth in the tournament rode on their good service and also their opponents twice. In the second set, the Israeli pair played much better but then failed to create opportunities and were broken once. The final set saw both the teams winning a break point each but then it was the pair of Paes-Stepanek that emerged the winner.
