Youngster Ishan Kishan (64) and Ben Cutting’s (24) aggressive innings and a commendable bowling performance to back it up helped Mumbai Indians register a record 102 run win against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
With this win, MI stay alive in the race of the Play offs and enter the Top 4 of the points table due to a superior net run rate.
This was Mumbai’s 5th win in the 11 matches and Kolkata’s 6th defeat in as many matches. At the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Wednesday, Mumbai Indians batted first and scored a challenging 210 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.
In response, KKR never got going and started losing wickets from the first over itself, when Sunil Narine departed for 4.
Earlier Kishan faced just 21 balls for his 64 studded with 5 fours and 6 sixes. Cutting’s 9 ball 24 provided MI the finishing edge. Suryakumar Yadav and skipper Rohit Sharma contributed with 36 each.
In the run chase, KKR was all out for 108 runs in 18.1 overs. Chris Lynn and Nitish Rana made 21 runs each which was clearly not enough chasing over 200 runs. KKR will now have to win all their remaining matches to stay alive in the competition. KKR slip to 5th place with the defeat.
