Spot-fixing: PCB suspends Pakistan quick Irfan for one year

cricket bat ball 520Lahore: Pakistan pacer Mohammad Irfan was banned for a year by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday for failing to report approaches by bookmakers linked to spot-fixing twice.

According to a BBC report, the 7ft 1in bowler was one of three cricketers charged during the Pakistan Super League following an anti-corruption investigation.

The ban might get curtailed to six months if the 34-year-old Irfan fulfils certain conditions imposed on him. His last game for Pakistan was in 2016.

Besides Irfan, opener Sharjeel Khan and top-order batsman Khalid Latif, who both play for Islamabad United alongside Irfan, were also provisionally suspended.

In February, the PCB announced it was investigating "an international syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the PSL".

Left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar who represented the Quetta Gladiators and opening batsman Shazaib Hassan of Karachi Kings were also questioned by the PCB's anti-corruption unit.
