LOS ANGELES: Despite losing their last league match to Jersey by one run qualified for the final of the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 here tonight. They will now cross swords with Oman who surprised Denmark by 43 runs, in the final slated for tomorrow. Oman and USA also reserved reserved their promotion berth to the ICC WCL Division 3.
Formidable Bermuda suffered a stunning 25-run defeat at the hands of Italy. For third play-off match Italy will play Jersey at Wong Cricket Field Woodley Park here. The match for the third play-off will be between Bermuda and Denmark.
A brilliant century by Alex Amsterdam (102, 8x4s, 1x6) went into vain as Jersey snatched an exciting one-run victory against USA. Chasing a victory target of 250 runs in 50 overs, USA finished with 248 for 8 and fell short by one run.
Besides Alex's three-figure total, Fahad Babar (18), Abdullah Syed 20 and TP Allen (35) were the other main scorers for USA. Perchard (3 for 56) and NAT Watkins (3 for 35) shared bowling honours for Jersey.
Earlier, batting first Jersey posted 249 in 48.2 overs . Their runs mainly came from the bats of PW Gough (32, 4x4s), NAT Watkins (69, 11x4s, 1x6), JW Jenner (57, 6x4s, 1x6) and AW Hawkins-Kay (39, 2x4s, 1x6) . Jersey's all-rounder NAT Watkins (69 and 3 for 35) was adjudged the player of the match.
Oman's 43-run stunning win against Denmark owed their triumph to all-round display by Kharwar Ali 74, 7x4s, 1x6 and 5 for 37). Batting first, Oman scored 189 in 46.4 overs. AV Lalcheta made a valuable contribution of 62 runs.
RB Javed and Aftab Ahmed got four wickets each for 32 and 30 runs, respectively, for Denmark
In reply Denmark were restricted to 146 in 34 overs. SA Ahmad (31, 6x4s) and A Khan (not out 32, 3x4s, 1x6) played defiant knocks. Kharwar Ali (74 and 5 for 37) of Oman was declared the Player of the match:
